This story is true about Jann Mardenborough, who found a new path to becoming a professional race car driver. Does that pathway lead to the world of racing, or does it just make for a good action film?

Jann was contacted by the game developers and Nissan Europe, who had an idea to recruit some of the game’s top players into a school for race car drivers. They had to prove they could only race in the big leagues after rigorous testing.

You can’t just grab a driver from the street and put them in the fastest car known to man. Finally, a racing movie that is on par with some of the more popular sports movies out there.

Rush

Another way into the world of racing from the comfort of your couch is Rush. Rush is a movie that tells the story of Niki Lauda and James Hunt. Niki and James were race car drivers who had a well-known rivalry.

But that rivalry leads to a horrible accident that threatens their racing career. This movie stars Chris Hemsworth and Daniel Bruhl as the two racers who take things to the next level on the track.

That’s right; we leave the street racing world of the Fast franchise and head for something a little more legitimate. We may miss Dwayne Johnson, but Chris Hemsworth picks up the slack in this action-packed ride through Formula One racing in the 1970s. Rush may be considered one of the best car movies of all time.

The Ice Road

Not all cars have four wheels, belong on a race track, or are great for car chases. Ice Road is a movie that is more about driving skills in treacherous terrain. A team of miners gets trapped underground.

Luckily, Liam Neeson is a down-on-his-luck trucker who might be the only hope of saving these miners. However, he must get the rescue equipment through a hazardous ice road to get there.

Fans of Ice Road Truckers may find they genuinely enjoy this suspenseful and exciting haul. The movie came out in 2021 and stars Liam Neeson and Laurence Fishburne.

Full disclosure: it is not very highly rated. However, car lovers may want to give it a watch for the driving skills alone.

The Transporter Refuelled

Car enthusiasts should already be familiar with the Transporter, starring Jason Statham. The original is all about a driver for hire. Most of the people who hire him are looking for getaway drivers, not exactly Grand Prix drivers.

The Wheelman

Speaking of getaway drivers…the Wheelman. This is a Netflix original, which means it isn’t going anywhere. The movie stars Frank Grillo as the driver in a botched robbery.

He must rely on his driving skills to get away after an unknown caller threatens everything. This movie is a highly-rated one that shows award-winning Netflix originals do exist.

Watching the Wheelman race to keep his family safe, you will surely get an adrenaline rush. But the best part is that you can watch it repeatedly since it is a Netflix original.

Initial D

America doesn’t have a monopoly on the best car movies on Netflix. Initial D is a Hong Kong movie that you will surely enjoy. The movie stars Jay Chou as the 18-year-old son of a retired race car driver.

Of course, the teen takes up a driving job as a delivery driver but dreams bigger of following in his father’s footsteps. Now is his chance to get behind the wheel and work toward a life of speed.

This movie is based on an anime that was based on a manga series. You don’t have to know what all of those things are, but if you do, you will enjoy this movie even more.

Lowriders

Not all of the best car movies on Netflix are action-packed racing movies or about a bank robbery gone wrong. Lowriders is a family drama about a high school student known in East LA for his graffiti art.

Unfortunately, he gets caught up in the family feud between his embittered brother and his father. Cars mean more to people than just transportation. Some families get deep into the world of cars; it becomes a part of their family.

Anyone from a lowrider family knows that the car is basically an extension of their family. Weekend activities, chores, and even entertainment all surround the classic cars.

This is what makes Lowriders a fantastic movie: the drama and the emotion, both driven by beautiful cars. Such films are worth a watch, even if you’re just watching to check out all of the beautiful cars.
