During the summer months, the amount of prime-time television I take in goes down drastically. That’s because we see an end to fall television series. However, there is one show that keeps me happy, even if it is only one night a week. That show is Game of Thrones, and if it’s summer, and I haven’t seen the latest episode, it’s because I literally had no time. I also should mention that I don’t have cable. Instead, I stream all of my entertainment, or intertainment if you’ve read my other posts. That means I have to watch Game of Thrones without cable.
Want to watch Game of Thrones but don’t have cable? What you need is a little creativity and a passion for Game of Thrones.
HBO Now is an app made by HBO that allows you to stream any of their programs and movies for a monthly fee. This way is not how I do it, but is one of the easiest ways to watch. Once you have a subscription, you can watch on your phone, computer, Amazon Fire Stick, Roku, Chromecast or any smart TV or gaming console.
As a kid, Pay Per View was the only way to rent and watch movies from your television besides heading to Blockbuster. Remember Blockbuster? I would ride my bike there, rent a movie, buy some candy and a soda then ride home and watch the movie. It was cool because it was a way to argue when I was told to get outside and get some sun.
“I already rode my bike to Blockbuster! That’s enough sun for now.” Back to the reason we’re here, now we have iTunes, Amazon, and Google Play Movies & TV. Through those services, you can rent or buy an episode of Game of Thrones and then stream the way you always do (refer to the second half of the above entry).
This one is definitely not for me, but maybe you have more patience than I. If you do, congratulations! Anyway, you could just wait for the physical DVD to come out. Though I have to wonder if you know what year it is if you do this, also, have you heard of technology…a computer?
Ok, this is a touchy one so let’s start with one of these. Disclaimer: We do not condone the use or personally use any sort of pirating website or service of any kind to watch Game of Thrones or any other sort of copyrighted material. Now that the professional aspect is out of the way, I know the struggle.
Some sites that will remain nameless (because I’ve never used nor plan to use them so I don’t know what they’re called), offer ways to stream Game of Thrones–for free.
Friends or Family
Lastly, if you don’t want to pay for the subscription to HBO in any way, surely you have a friend or family member that does. You could disguise the weekly visit as a “How are you?” type thing or just be real and tell them you’re there for Game of Thrones. Either way, this is probably the cheapest way to watch Game of Thrones…legally of course.
