But this is St. Patrick’s Day, which means we’re looking for one color alone: green. Green is a part of St. Patrick’s Day thanks to the shamrock being the national symbol of Ireland. The green of the shamrock has seeped its way into Irish culture ever since it became the national symbol in 1726.

In fact, the shamrock was the unofficial symbol long before that. It was said that Saint Patrick himself used the shamrock as a way to describe the holy trinity to Irish natives. Green is a significant aspect of Irish culture now, all thanks to the shamrock and possibly Saint Patrick himself.

That is why we wear, eat, and drink green on St. Patrick’s Day. Why not incorporate it into the jello shots for St. Patrick’s Day?

Drinking on St. Patrick’s Day

You may think that drinking on St. Patrick’s Day seems rude. The holiday is all about a saint, after all, so why do we drink? We can thank those who celebrated St. Patrick’s Day in its early years for that tradition, in a way.

It is important to know that Saint Patrick was the man who brought Christianity to Ireland, as legend dictates. He also drove all the snakes from Ireland after hearing the Irish calling out to him in a vision.

Of course, snakes are more like a symbol of evil in Christianity, so the legend could refer to pagans. However, that doesn’t change the fact that Saint Patrick was celebrated while he was alive and even more so after he passed away.

One of the ways the Irish celebrated was to lift Lenten restrictions temporarily. That means that the Irish would host a feast filled with foods and alcohol that weren’t allowed during Lent.

This is why drinking is such a big part of St. Patrick’s Day today. There are even green drinks for kids you can use at your party to make sure they feel included. Therefore, drink away this St. Patrick’s Day in honor of Saint Patrick himself!
